Smyrna International, based in Gothenburg on the west coast of Sweden, is an international focused ministry within Smyrna Pentecostal Church. Smyrna Pentecostal Church has been in existence for almost 100 years.
Over 25 years ago a vision was born to reach out to the English speaking community of Gothenburg. Gothenburg is the second largest populated city in Sweden and has a vast number of immigrants from all corners of the world. Many have decided to make Sweden their home, but Gothenburg is also a large university city and has a great deal of foreign students that have Gothenburg as a city wherein they can continue their line of education. Some are here for just a couple of weeks or months.
Others study here for a number of years. One of the goals of Smyrna International Ministry is, in an English speaking church environment; assist in providing challenging, spiritual nourishment to Christians during their stay here in our wonderful city and church. At the same time creating a warm welcoming atmosphere, like home away from home. We see the calling to equip, empower and encourage those here so that they can be of a positive influence in the city, nation and wherever else they find themselves as they contagiously pass on what they receive.
Another dimension of our calling within Smyrna International is to build bridges in church and society between different cultures and backgrounds. In 1 Corinthians 12, the apostle Paul uses the illustrative picture of a body to explain the necessity of diversity within the local church.
We believe that this creative diversity is not only regarding different age groups but also covers cultural backgrounds and origins. On an average Sunday we have representatives from many different countries and nationalities.
Smyrna International is a fellowship of believers (see “What we believe”). Our fellowship has an average of 60-90 regular participants at our Sunday celebration meetings. We are an open church fellowship for both Christian believers and also those who are still on the spiritual quest looking for answers.
We believe in the assisting and transforming power of our Almighty God through the Holy Spirit. We see Sunday celebration and Friday prayer meetings as the central core of our activities, but as you can see we have a wide range of regular gatherings and activities for all ages.
