others

One of the most powerful statements in the Bible reveals the reason that God came into the world; because He loved  us (the world). The coming of Jesus Christ is connected to others (saving us from perishing) and is motivated by love.

Moreover, as Jesus Christ walked on the earth, He was moved with compassion as He saw how helpless and harassed the crowds of people were. This led to an interesting part where Jesus Christ gets twelve men (disciples) to help Him with the substantial work. He gives them authority to heal sicknesses, drive out evil spirits, raise the dead and whatever else needed to be done in order to restore hope to others!

These men were given clear instructions to go to the poor, the sick, the demon possessed and all in need (physically and spiritually). They were not to charge for any service rendered, after all, they had received everything freely.

What does this mean to us today?

Once we desire and decide to follow Jesus Christ, we become citizens of the Kingdom of God. Our life is transformed each and everyday to being like God. Christ’s love starts compelling us to think of others and serve them with absolutely no strings attached. He moves us to act in a love that is beyond human comprehension…it’s literally being captive to a supernatural love that knows no bounds.

In addition to this, we are given the same mandate as that of the twelve men who walked with Jesus. We get the supernatural power to accomplish things that are not humanly possible with clear instructions of service to others!

What does this look like?

In retrospect, when we closely walk with the Lord, He automatically inspires us to live beyond ourselves. It brings us joy and fulfilment to be a blessing to others. We find ourselves giving randomly to those near and far, friends or strangers, literally anyone in need.

This giving can be in form of intercessory prayers, spending time, giving material things, acts of service, impartations of healing and deliverance, creating opportunities or whatever else. The main purpose being to bring hope and to restore God’s original design.

These expressions can grow into a one-on-one daily outreach, a community social service, an international organisation, a medical drive, a daily prayer list, a worship ministry, a street healing mission, a business idea or however God leads us. The important thing is to keep the main thing the main thing…others!

Disclaimer!

Beware of getting caught up in comparing with others…God has made each of us unique for a specific work.

Beware of being prideful. Always keep in mind that, “freely you have received!”

Watch out for your motive. It’s easy to start out right and get off-course. Check your heart frequently! A good deed with the wrong motive does not go a long way!

Do not let your main focus be about being big and leaving a legacy and all that talk. It is a natural end product (not main focus) when you passionately have your heart for the people (not the cause).

Be fully dependant on the main source; Jesus!

Finally

Today I had an inspirational conversation with a 10yr old girl.

Me: what makes you sad?
E: seeing the poor people on the streets
Me: what do you think you or we can do about that?
E: make a hotel for them where they can stay and get food.

The conversation was long and interesting to say the least. It’s wonderful to look at life through the eyes of a child…

Below are some of her thoughts;

Maybe we can spend some more time this week thinking and praying for others. We will realise how much God will use us and how much less we will be concerned about ‘me, myself and I’ 😉

God bless you!! <3
