Day 5 – LIFE – HELP COMES FROM THE LORD

”I lift up my eyes to the mountains. where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2
In November last year I had the privilege to go on a trip to Pakistan. During the journey we traveled along the foot of the Himalayas, and it was a real experience seeing the mighty massifs loom in the horizon and only the mist and clouds hiding what looked to be endless rows of mountain tops. I felt pretty small when I stood and gazed up at the chain of peaks that towered above me. And one can certainly feel small when problems, pain and misfortunes pile up as mountains in our lives. And that is something we all face in different ways. Perhaps the psalmist was on a journey when this Psalm was written. Maybe he didn`t see a way forward and mountain silhouettes began to haunt his thoughts. ”It is impossible to get through this”, ”you have failed” and ”you will never reach the goal.” But the psalmists mind changes. He remembers that he has the Lord with him on his walk – He who himself shaped these mountains that now eluded him. He who has everything in his hands. On this day, you and I get to join in the words of the psalmist even if our so-called mountains loom over us: ”I lift up my eyes to the mountains. where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
