Quiet Time

I am convinced that one of the most important goals as a believer, is to grow in the knowledge of God, to know His voice, to be more sensitive to His move and to constantly realize and understand His will for my life and in each situation. For this to happen, one needs to have a level of intimacy with God.

Just like in any other relationship, spending time with each other is essential in growing an intimate bond of love. Step by step you draw closer as you get to know each other more and more. In cultivating and nurturing this relationship, one needs to diligently make time and effort to engage and respond to the dynamics of its specifics. This certainly takes an undivided commitment.

Well, over the years, I have developed an intimacy with God by spending special moments with Him: my quiet time. This has been a daily scheduled moment in the wee hours of the morning when the world is still asleep and the hustle and bustle of the day is not yet in play. During these hour(s), I read and meditate upon God’s word (the bible), I tell God everything that’s in my heart, I reason with Him, I consult His opinion, I invite His guidance and direction, I laugh, I cry, I sing, I dance, I just sit there, I listen to Him, He teaches me, He corrects me, He directs me, He sings over me, He quiets me, He reveals stuff to me, He speaks…it’s just wonderful!

I know that it’s easy to get absorbed in the busy-ness of life and spend minimal to no scheduled time with God. I  have had those periods where i’ve been in constant fellowship with God in the course of the day but have forsaken my precious “quiet time” with Him. However, we must not expect our relationship with God to miraculously flourish to a new level and bear fruit. Apart from Him, we can do nothing!

In His days here on earth, Jesus Christ was totally dependent on God the Father. He would take time early in the morning (among other times) to spend time with His father. He would withdraw to a solitary place to talk to God, get instruction and direction from Him, reason with Him, draw strength from Him…it’s no wonder His mission here on earth was successfully accomplished. His utmost goal was meticulously articulated when He remarked, “My food is to do the will of My Father and to finish it.”

As children of God, let us be like Christ; desiring to do only God’s will, daily seeking God’s face, abiding in Him as His words abide in us, chasing after God and pursuing Him with all our hearts and TIME! This week I encourage you  to establish an hour to daily sink in the presence, to know God for yourself…what a divine treat!
